Ambassador O'Sullivan will share his insights on the status of the economic and trade relations
between the European Union and the United States since the start of the Trump Administration.

H.E. Ambassador David O'Sullivan
David O'Sullivan has been the EU's Ambassador to the United States since November 2014. As Ambassador, he represents the institutions of the European Union to the United States government, and coordinates with EU member nation ambassadors on matters of EU policy. Before his posting in Washington DC, he oversaw the establishment of the European Union's first diplomatic service led by the EU's High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy (currently Federica Mogherini) and comprising a network of some 140 Delegations. From 2005-2010, he was Commission Director General for Trade, leading the department that supports the EU Trade Commissioner in negotiating bilateral and multilateral trade agreements. He has served in several top positions at the EU Commission, including as Secretary General (2000-2005) supporting the President and ensuring policy coherence.  In his various roles, he has worked closely with five Commission Presidents (Jean Claude Juncker, Jose Manuel Barroso, Romano Prodi, Jacques Santer, and Jacques Delors) during his career as a senior EU official.  Born in Dublin, Ireland, he began his diplomatic life in the Irish Foreign Service. He joined the European Commission in 1979, six years after Ireland joined the European Economic Community (EEC), and spent four years in the Commission's Delegation in Tokyo in the 1980s. He has a background in economics, graduating from Trinity College, Dublin and completed post graduate studies at the College of Europe, Bruges. Ambassador O’Sullivan is married with two children.
