Torsten Sløk, Chief International Economist and Managing Director at Deutsche Bank Securities, has generously agreed to share his thoughts on what we might expect from the U.S. and world economies in 2018, as the curtain is raised for the second year of the current administration. So far, the markets have been in positive territory despite the confusion and uncertainty emanating from and caused by President Trump's daily Twitter feed. But what will the future bring? And what will it take to continue the positive market trend?
During the election campaign, Donald Trump promised major changes that would Make America Great Again. Promises whose manifestation remains elusive.
The new tax reform whose adoption seemed almost assured at the end of 2017 would be a major legislative achievement for Trump's embattled White House.
Republicans promise growth and tax cuts; Democrats predict the opposite. But what consequences do economists outside the Beltway predict this new reform might have? And how about the promises of more jobs, improved infrastructure, greater military investment, reduced regulation, and new trade agreements? All factors that will have an impact on the United States and the world's economic future.
After the talk, there will be an opportunity to ask Torsten questions.
