It has long been one of the mainstays of the Danish social calendar in New York and Connecticut. Attracting both performance sailors and the more occasional racers, the Denmark Race remains one of the largest day races on the Long Island Sound. Registration is on www.yachtscoring.com.

The fun is both on the water and off, with two race parties: a dinner the night before, and cocktails, Danish beer and snacks on the Stamford Yacht Club lawn where sailors, friends and family gather for the Reggae Lawn Party after the race, in connection with the awards ceremony.

This year it will also be a ‘race within a race’ - a Corporate Challenge;Six Danish companies will race each other in an Ideal 18 one design boat with a 3-person crew [a skilled sailor will be matched with novice crews]. The fun isn’t just on the water. The festivities start Saturday evening with the traditional Denmark Race Dinner. After the race, sailors, friends and family gather at Stamford Yacht Club for the Reggae Lawn Party while race results are being tabulated. The Awards Ceremony marks the end of a busy weekend.

The organizers, the Denmark Race Committee at the Stamford Yacht Club — with the support of Corporate Members Battea and Evest, the Royal Danish Yacht Club (KDY), and the Danish-American Chamber of Commerce — expect a big line-up of starting boats when the first gun goes off at 10:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 12.
